Day 50 of 62

We broke camp reasonably early and made our way north. We stopped to look at Sauble Falls briefly, and then had lunch in a small city named Owen Sound. Afterwards we headed up the peninsula to catch a ferry from Tobermory to South Baymouth. The ferry ride was gorgeous, with bright blue skies and dark richly blue waters of the lake around us.

Once the ferry docked, we drove though Manitoulin Island to the mainland and followed the shore of the lake westward. This area has some gorgeous scenery, but there aren’t a lot of photos of it, nor is there much I can say about it. We followed single lane roads, thick with green trees on both sides, occasionally interrupted by small ridges of rock. In some areas the trees on our left clear just enough to show the broad blue expanse of lake. About every 150 km we pass through a wide spot in the road with a single vacant filling station and maybe a building that used to house a diner. We put in a lot of hours of driving this day, driving stopping at 10:00 pm in Sault Ste Marie.
