Day 46 of 62

We got up and rescued the bus from the dubious parking we had found the previous evening. Once we had secured the bus in a more legitimate space, we set out to explore Montreal on foot. We walked through the Old Town district, then through The Village (the gay area of the city), then a long walk down St. Catherine and parts of the underground mall, and finally to the Latin Quarter for dinner.

Some building in Montreal. Mainly I liked this picture because of the juxtaposition of the older building next to the new.

Parts of it reminded me of Amsterdam, such as the beautiful ornate old buildings next to sleek modern ones. I wanted to find something that made me just fall in love with Montreal, but I’m afraid I didn’t succeed. There were parts of the city that were quite pretty, but it was also terribly crowded and fairly dirty as only a big city can be. The humidity and heat were fierce as well. It reminded me also of Vancouver, BC, which somehow keeps quite a clean downtown as well as offering water and mountain views.

After we had thoroughly worn ourselves out walking the city, we returned to the bus and headed out of town. Soon we were over the border and slept somewhat soundly in Cornwall, Ontario.
