This post is form Shelley:

When we started heading northwest towards my old college town, I looked up and saw an exit for J Clyde Morris Boulevard south in Newport News, and followed my instincts to Hiden Blvd and then right to the house I lived in about 20 years ago. The street was much the same although the Woolworth’s shopping center where I spent so many hours has all different stores now. I spent the next half-hour busily patting myself on the back for navigating there based just on memory.

The drive to Charlottesville was part of the nostalgia tour as I recalled ticking off the county names with Kristy as we made the drive from Virginia Beach several times. Henrico gave way to Goochland, Fluvana, and eventually Albemarle and we were there. We explored the campus and I was able to see many of the buildings in which I had class, the two main libraries where I spent so much time, and of course the (ahem) frat houses where I drank a lot of alcohol before obtaining the legally necessary age.

The biggest changes on campus were at the athletic facilities which look like they have tripled in size since I was there. (Despite not bringing in the big bucks, the math library too has moved to larger quarters.) One big thunderstorm moved me to splash around in the parking-lot puddles while much more rain than we ever get in Cupertino soaked me and everything around. We were lucky enough to have dinner with Anita and Sarah and drinks with jb while in C’ville, each time at an “old haunt” of mine from college. I completed the nostalgia by picking up a Virginia shirt on The Corner, with homage to my current Californian roots by choosing an orange and blue swirling tie-dye. I loved seeing the campus and remembering fondly so many events from the four years I spent there.
