I know this girl, and she’s a lot of things, but subtle perhaps not so much. When I started going through my pile of mail in the days prior to her birthday, I found a photocopy of a recipe for Sweet Potato Pie from some past issue of Cooks Illustrated.
I’ve never made this pie before, which is a bit of a surprise given my southern roots. And I wasn’t feeling particularly good on the appointed day, but I forged ahead regardless. And what do you know, it turned out pretty good. At the very least, it made the aforementioned girl very happy, and you can’t ask for much more than that.
It’s a thing of beauty. Save me a piece?
