My first meme

Your first time is always special, I’m told.

Book I own that my friends don’t own:
I got rid of virtually all my books a few years ago, so the list of books I actually own now is remarkably short. The one that is least likely to be owned by anyone else is the “Color Atlas of Human Anatomy” by McMinn and Hutchings. (Here is the latest version of the book.) I found this at Powell’s in Portland several years ago, and it is a wonderful book of color photographs of human anatomy. Pick a portion of the body (such as the knee) and here it is at the skin layer, and then with the skin and fascia removed, and here it is with some of the muscles peeled back, here are the veins, arteries and nerves revealed and highlighted, and here’s the joint capsule, and finally here’s the bare bone. Fabulous detail for the major anatomy geeks.

CD I own friends on LJ don’t own:
Shel Silverstein’s “Inside Folk Songs”, 1962.
This was an LP my Dad had when I was a kid that I adored. It was lost when the family’s home burned in 1975. About six years ago I found a copy for sale on the net, bought it, recorded the tracks as AIFF and made a CD out of it. I even made a little CD-booklet for it from the original dust sleeve. Maybe someday it will be released for real on CD and I’ll get to buy a legit copy. You have to love songs like “Never Bite A Married Woman On The Thigh”.

VCR/DVD I own my friends on LJ don’t own:
I’m tempted to mention the Ackland DVD Atlas of Human Anatomy, but I already geeked out on anatomy above. So, instead I’ll mention Fishing With John. This DVD is a collection of episodes of a television fishing show. But, wow, this is not the fishing show you remeber from Sunday morning television in Tennessee. The host is indy musician/actor, John Lurie, and he lures a number of celebs to bizarre locations under questionable circumstances to go fishing. Ever wondered what kind of fisherman Willem Dafoe is? Now you can see for yourself. What can i say, I love this DVD. But then, I have a healthy appetite for the bizarre.

Place I have been that my friends haven’t been:
I should probably be mentioning something from this summer’s massive roadtrip, but a fair amount of that was spent at national or state parks, where someone is likely to have been before. So, instead, I will harken back to a college camping trip in Etowah, Tennessee. I’m pretty sure my girlfriend and I were the only ones in the campground the entire week. Of course, today the city probably has a Planet Hollywood and a Hard Rock Cafe.

        Re: actually, I have McMinn’s.

I looked at it and was not enthused, then again, I get impatient with anatomy CD-ROMs. (I had a copy of Primal Pictures also, which is very comprehensive and which lets you add muscle by layer. I was not impressed.)

(Hmm, how do I put this in context? I really go for Grant’s Atlas or Netter’s, because the artists who draw them have a way of emphasizing the details and… organizing… what you see. And Grant’s Atlas is cross-referenced to my thoroughly begrimed and battle-worn copy of Grant’s Dissector…. always a plus. 😉 McMinn’s, in the print and CDROM version, looks like tagged meat to me. Personal preference, I guess!)
